SENATOR EDWARD M KENNEDY

We did not agree politically or morally.

I can't forget Chappaquiddick.

Now, that is between him and his maker.

But, he was very obviously loved by his family. He and his family will always be such a big part of the memories I have from my young life.

I did love the way he looked after his nieces and nephews. Especially Caroline and John. It was easy to see the affection they had for him. If I had known him personally I probably would have liked him and we would have agreed to disagree. I have friends and family, that I love very much, that we agree to disagree. So, having said that, Teddy Kennedy, I think I will miss you!

Tuesdays with MeMe

John bought me a new "little" car last week. I am calling my new car "my Obama". Why, you ask. We bought this car through the "cash for clunkers" program. I hate driving my Yukon when I am by myself. It feels like I am pulling a weight behind me all the time. Now, we need that Yukon often, so I love it for when we have 4 kids and 2 car seats. This Hyundai Accent is so much fun to drive while shopping.

I picked the kids up from school in the new car. They had not seen it. When I pulled up to get them at the first school I could read Abby's lips......that's not my MeMe. Then on to the next school to get Emma and again I read her lips......that's not my MeMe's car! I convinced them by my frantic waving that I was indeed their MeMe. After everyone was buckled in and we started down the road the questions began. Then came the question that nearly made me pull over........MeMe, What is this?

MeMe---It rolls the window down
Emma---Really?
MeMe---Yes
Emma---Can I try it?
MeMe---Yes
Emma---just turn it?
MeMe---Yes
Emma--- rolls the window down
Emma---This car is cool. What else does it do.
MeMe---roll the window up
Abby---John Brady, roll your window down
JB3---How
Abby---I'll do it
MeMe---roll the window back up, John Brady, it makes me nervous for you to be by an open window
JB3---How do you do it
Abby---I'll do it
Abby---How?
MeMe---Boy, do I feel old!

Put me in Coach

The last two times that Lawson has been at our house the Berry High School football team has been practicing. Lawson and John have gone down on the golf cart and watched them several times. Lawson entertains himself by running through "this thing". Both of my boys played football. If you attend a small school you play for 6 years. I should know what you call this thing. I could ask John but I decided to be truthful and tell you that I do not know what it is called.

Brady-Josh

Help out your Mother. What do you call this thing? Lawson loves it.

********Josh says that Coach Grey always called it "the ropes".********

The Barnyard Birthday

Abby's birthday party at The Barnyard was really fun. Lots of friends and family to wish our sweet girl a Happy 7th Birthday.

The Lawson family will never be known for singing a harmonizing and melodious version of Happy Birthday but it is sung with much gusto, love and affection!
As the Happy Birthday song was being sung I heard behind me a group wanting to join in when they heard the lovely sounds floating through the air. Yes, we caused quite a stir. These guys awoke from their slumber, ruffled their feathers and joined right in with the singing. What more could a girl ask than to be serenaded at The Barnyard!

SOUTH EASTERN CONFERENCE

The SEC has passed a new rule controlling what video and pictures of sports events can be published on the air and on a web site. Now, I love the SEC. Everybody knows that it is the best conference. The worst thing about it is that the best teams have to play each other! I am waiting to pass judgement on this new rule. We will see how far it goes and how much it changes things.

But........just in case
I thought I might better go ahead and publish this picture
after all.......
they are on a college campus..... running with a football!

And hey.........maybe the SEC ought to go ahead and try to get the exclusive rights to the words

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

A Memory on the Tip of my Tongue

John, Lawson and I were in Tuscaloosa Tuesday when Emma, Abby and John Brady got home from their first day of school. Emma is in the 3rd grade at Huntington, Abby is in the 2nd grade and John Brady is in pre K at Northport Elementary.

Later, on our way home John was saying how he expected ( wishing ) JB3 to come through the door looking and acting ( to a Pop, anyway ) way to little ( he is only 4 years old ) to be in school. Instead, he looked and acted like school was no big deal and he had been there for years ( so proud of him )!

Now, I can't tell you how much I appreciate being alive and healthy at this point in my life. I plan on seeing JB3's youngest child come home from their first day of school! BUT.... seeing JB3 come home from real school did make a little flutter of -- Uh Oh, I am getting old -- go through my head!

So, because I have big plans on staying around for a long time I do a few things to try to help (need to do a lot more). One of the things I have done for many years is to take a 81 mg. aspirin every morning. This is easy.

I had just bought a new bottle of the low dose aspirin. This morning I opened the new bottle and got out an aspirin and popped it in my mouth. I was immediately transported back to a red cedar shake house on the old 78 Highway in Birmingham. Why you ask.........

I had accidentally bought the kids chewable tablets. Will anybody my age ever forget the taste of a baby aspirin? I could picture the kitchen and even the cabinet they were always in. Hey......that's a good sign isn't it!!!!!

Where The Grass Bites You

Pop decided since JB3 liked the woods at the hunting club that Lawson might like them also. We loaded up the golf cart and took off. Lawson was also impressed with the camp house but he did not notice all the "reindeer" (a JB3 fav). He wanted to climb the steps to the bedrooms. Lawson is all about some climbing right now!

Pop showing Lawson the Sipsey Swamp.
Copper ran every step beside the golf cart. It had to have been miles.
When we stopped to let Lawson throw some rocks in
the swamp Copper laid down in the water to
cool off.

Law helped his Pop put some fertilizer on a field. Not sure I understand.....I thought turkey season would not come around again until 2010 but this field has something to do with turkeys !?!
Now, about the title of this post. Pop told Lawson not to walk in the grass as they were leaving the field because there were briars in the grass. Of course, what does any 2 year old do....he walked in the grass. Yep, it happened, he got caught on a briar bush. Luckily, it was very small but he did get a briar scratch. Now, Lawson fell Saturday on his driveway at home and had a pretty scraped up forehead and was quite the little trooper about it. But, Lawson got very upset about this briar scratch. He looked up at his Pop with big tears in his eyes and a trembling voice and said "Dat grss Bite chu". It just really hurt his feelings. I guess he was thinking that the grass didn't bite in Birmingham.

Here we are back at the camp house and Lawson is still talking about the grass that bit him.

He wanted MeMe to get a good look!

But, just at the right time, a worm crawled onto the step and the briar scratch was forgotten!

Look ,Mommy and Daddy, my head is healing just fine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHILLIP

Happy Birthday Phillip...wish you were here....no really, I wish I were there! Just wish we could see you. I guess from Phillip's 5th birthday until about his 21st birthday I was always there along with the rest of the Lawson family. Phillip was like my 4th child and definitely like a 2nd big brother to Courtney. Put Brady and Phillip together and you are going to laugh the whole time. Phillip lives in California with his wife Rachel and his son Noah. We get to see them about twice a year. Luckily, Rachel has a blog so we can keep up with them!
We miss you and love you.
Have a great day!

A Lawson funny.......

Lawson spent the night with us Saturday night. We went to church this morning. After church we always go to the Fayette Long Term Care to see my Mother. The Great-Grandchildren all call my Mother...G-Mama. As we pulled up to the 4-way stop next to the nursing home Lawson perked up, pointed to the building and said "that's G-mama's house"! It is the only place he has ever seen her so he thinks it is her big, big house!

HANG TAG JOURNEY

The first stirrings of football season have begun. The Tuscaloosa News has football everywhere, if you ride down the road, here in Berry, you see the BHS football team practicing and then I read about the PeeWee team practice on one of my favorite blogs this morning. John and I are making our plans for which of Josh's football games we will attend. I came across this stack of tags and hang tags in Josh's room when I redid it this spring. They tell his journey.

I don't have a hangtag for Southern Arkansas University....it is hanging in his car!
