Eight Is Enough

September Book Club

"Loving Frank"

"Loving Frank was the book we read for September. We all know the name Frank Lloyd Wright but I had not heard of Mamah Cheney. Frank and Mamah were both married and had children and met when Mamah's husband, Edwin, commissioned Frank to design a house. Their affair became the stuff of headlines when they left their families to live and travel together. This historical novel is about Mamah as much or more than about Frank. Mamah was an educated woman who was held down by what was expected of a woman back then. The bizarre and tragic events that ended her life and many others that Frank Lloyd Wright loved changed him and, some say, his work forever.

I got this book about four years ago. I read the first chapter and just couldn't seem to get into it. This is what is great about a book club. It forces you to read books that you might pass over. This turned out to be a great book that I had a hard time putting down. The end of the book still haunts me!

Our September meeting was at "All Fired Up" We met in the party room, had a wonderful meal made by our hostess, Kim Bowling, discussed our book and painted. Wow, can we multi task! I decided to make a platter.....always need more platters.....that would be a Book Club memory. For somebody that does not have one ounce of artistic ability....I think it turned out pretty good.

What a fun idea for a book club. I love All Fired Up. I'm hoping to take Olivia in December to make ornaments.

I'll have to add the book to my wishlist. I have read a few of the books you have suggested and loved all of them.

Your platter looks FANTASTIC...and you do too have artistic ability! That was such a great idea for a useful keepsake. I had so much fun with that meeting...maybe we can go back again sometime in the future.
